Laptop computers are ideal for people who do a lot of traveling. The various red laptops on the market today range from netbooks to notebooks, and provide an abundance of mobile computing possibilities.
Looking at some of the more powerful models, such as when reviewing gaming laptops like the Alienware M17x R2, there is an opportunity to really begin to appreciate the power of laptops specifically built for speed and performance. This laptop comes in a futuristic looking Nebula Red color and remains true to the unique styling found on other Alienware gaming laptops. Designed around the 1.73GHz Intel Core i7-820QM Quad Core Processor, and offering up and additional 3.06GHz Turbo Mode with 8MB cache makes for a distinctive feel as far as overall responsiveness goes. Additionally this red laptop is packed with 8GB of RAM and has two 500GB, 7200 RPM hard drives ready for advanced configurations.
The graphics are powered by dual 1GB ATI CrossFireX Radeon Mobility HD 4870, and viewed through a 17” UltraSharp WUXGA display at 1920x1200 resolution. Weighing in at just under 12 pounds, this is one red hot, red laptop intended for far more than just being a portable travel companion.
Among the more standard sized, mid-level laptops we have reviewed recently, the Dell Studio 1645 is a good example of how a laptop can combine power and portability without becoming too bulky. This laptop which comes in a Merlot Red color is designed around the 1.6GHz Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core Processor with 2.8GHz Turbo Mode and 6MB cache. Keeping things a bit more manageable when traveling, the 15.6” WLED HD widescreen display at a 1600x900 resolution still provides high quality, bright vivid colors.
Additional features on this Dell Studio colored laptop include a backlit keyboard, wireless N, 320GB SATA hard drive and 4x slot load Blu-Ray rewritable drive.
One of the true standout red laptops we have reviewed in the past is the Sangria or the Candy Apple Red Sony Vaio VGN-CS290 as it has definitely been at the cutting edge of fast. This particular model at the time of the review had one of the fastest 35 watt laptop processors in the world. The 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 processor is an impressive ground breaker in the world of technology as it operates at 3.06GHz per core with an impressive 6MB of L2 cache and a fantastic 1066MHz FSB.
Along with the significant cutting edge speed on this stunning red laptop comes a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6 hard drive which has been regarded as one of the fastest 5400 RPM hard drives on the market, and boasts and amazing 66MB per second read and write speed.
Of course technology changes so frequently that everything eventually gets faster, but from our experience with this drive in another laptop review, it is quite noticeably quicker in a test environment and under normal usage. The basic RAM options for the VGN-CS290 are 6GB DDR2-800 PC6400 RAM and 8GB DDR2-800 PC6400 RAM. These may be considered upgrade options so keep that in mind if you are comparing them with a base configuration.
Also we noted that the RAM upgrades are apparently only available with Vista Home Premium 64 BIT edition. As always, double check the base configuration specs of the individual model you happen to be looking at. You could save on the overall cost of laptop computers by not maxing out the RAM, because unless you need this much memory, it will basically just go unused and could even be considered overkill.
